First nude photos

The first photos made in this genre were made practically after the invention of cameras. They appeared when the technological possibilities allowed making pictures of good quality. That happened in the middle of the 19th century.

The first nude photos were not conserved, but their stories were not well chosen from the point of view of aesthetics. For example there are several photos with the image of a woman sitting on a chamber pot.

Every period in the development of cameras and photography were favourable for the creation of a great number of photos. There were 5 thousand of nude photos made in 1860 and in 1899 there were already 30 thousand. In 1870 the first erotic cards were edited for the masses. At the same time the fashion on special ethnic photos of naked Papuans appeared in Europe.

In 1900s the pictures of nymphets became extremely popular and revival of Olympic Games in 1910 was favourable for sport's nude photos.

If to consider the whole process of development of photos un the genre of nude photography we can easily notice the trend on changing of traditional strict genre of painting of the end of 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century to the modern state that can be characterised by the freedom of choosing stories.

Nude photos may be divided into two categories.

The first one is art nude that is artistically naked photography. This term can be applied to photos where the naked figure is demonstrated artistically with a good taste. Very often black-and-white photos are made in this genre that gives more artistry, mystic, dramatics etc. Such photos are usually maid for exhibitions and galleries and are not usual for magazines.

Erotic nude is the second category. It is erotically naked photography. In difference from artistic its aim is not to make people feel some dramatic emotions but to attract attention and provoke sexual desire of the beautiful naked figure. These photos are frequently used for magazines.

Nowadays both genres are very popular.
